ASRS Named Youth Defense Trainer by MIDC!

We’re excited to share that Alternative Sentencing & Reentry Solutions (ASRS) has been selected as a Youth Defense Trainer for the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission (MIDC) under a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).

ASRS Founder & CEO, Edward Sanders/Barakah, MSW, will bring his lived experience and expertise to enhance youth defense training, ensuring a more just and effective system for young people in Michigan’s legal system.

Edward, a dedicated justice advocate and social worker, has previously contributed to Washtenaw County’s Conviction Integrity and Expungement Unit and serves on the Detroit Justice Center’s board. His leadership in reentry and legal system reform continues to drive meaningful change.

We look forward to working with MIDC to improve youth defense practices and create lasting impact!
